Auto-mobile Injury

auto accident

An auto accident causes a significant amount of impact on the spine. Many people who were involved in an automobile accident sustain injury on their necks called “whiplash.” Whiplash, also known as "hyperflexion-extension injury", is an injury due to unusual amount of cervical (neck) movement during the impact causing damages to ligaments and muscle fibers on neck and shoulder area.

There can be other physical forces that may cause whiplash other than auto accidents, such as impact sports injury or a sudden blow. Whiplash can cause damages to muscles and ligaments on the front and back of the neck and in worse cases, it can cause damages to spinal joints, discs, and nerves. This type of injuries should never be overlooked as it can develop into chronic pain if not properly treated. Many automobile accident victims complain that they have pain and other symptoms and yet still are sent home without a proper treatment from their visit to the emergency room (E.R.). It may be because the emergency room generally treats life threatening conditions such as cervical fracture and send patients home if there is no fracture. Without proper treatment, patients continue to suffer with pain and other symptoms, many of them not knowing where to turn for help.
